FLAG CEREMONIES

The World Peace Flag Ceremony is a global celebration of the oneness of humanity. The national flag of each country is gracefully presented, acting as a symbol through which all participants send loving wishes to every region of the world with the prayer and positive affirmation ‘May peace Prevail on Earth.’ A Flag Ceremony brings the whole world into the classroom, community or event. By seeing the flags, hearing each country’s name, and having the honour of representing a country by holding its flag, those taking part have a memorable experience.

World Peace Flag Ceremonies are a powerful way to build communities committed to fostering a ‘Culture of Peace.’ In schools, they can serve as catalysts for teaching history, geography, literature and the arts. The recognition and awareness of the symbolism of the flags can form an integral part of a school curriculum and underpin the school ‘ethos’.
Flag Ceremonies can be any size and with any number of participants. They can be held almost anywhere – either with small flag cards, or with large, specially made flags from every country of the world.
The key to a successful World Peace Flag Ceremony is to send a sincere wish for peace to each country of the world. This helps participants to become more globally aware and that what they think, say and do does make a difference. Each year a Flag Ceremony is performed on the International Day of Peace (September 21st) at the United Nations, as part of a programme hosted by the UN Department of Public Information for New York schoolchildren and youth from other countries who participate live via satellite.
